History of Organization

Young at Heart seeds were sown in 1975 when a local Sunday School class chose to meet on a weekly basis in addition to Sunday. Pastor Rod and Faith Goertzen helped organize the group called "Happy Seniors".

In 1980, Ed and Mary Dougherty founded "Young at Heart Ministries" and the organzation evolved into an inter-denominational group with seniors from many local churches. (After Mary's death, Ed married Theresa who also supported Young at Heart Ministries.) In November 2002, the group moved to the Delos Smith Center.

A six member board serves in an advisory capacity. Young at Heart Ministries functions under the Hutchinson Community Foundation umbrella.
